The revised 1^st volume of the historical-critical complete edition of the correspondence of Leopold von Ranke contains 274 letters written by him and to him. For the first time, a basic new commentary reconstructs the young Ranke’s broad network of relationships, thereby offering new insights into the career strategies of the most important German-language historian of the 19^th century.
