In Yoga for Breast Care, senior yoga teacher Bobby Clennell offers a comprehensive program of asana (yoga poses) and pranayama (breathing techniques) designed to support breast health. Beginning with a description of breast development and structure and the lymphatic and hormonal systems, as well as breast conditions including pain, fibrocystic breasts, dense breasts, and more, Yoga for Breast Care then presents a variety of asana and pranayama divided into categories according to the position the body assumes: standing, sitting, twisting, inverting, bending forward or backward, and lying down. Also included are active and restorative sequences for immunity, energy, cyclic and noncyclic breast pain, cysts, and for pregnancy and nursing mothers. Practices for breast cancer survivors include sequences for those who have recently undergone breast-cancer surgery and are receiving intensive chemotherapy or radiation treatment and for those with decreased mobility and numbness in the arm, shoulder, and chest. Whether readers have experienced problems with their breasts or not, this book provides positive and practical methods for raising awareness and regaining confidence in the body.

Notă biografică

Bobby Clennell has been teaching Iyengar Yoga for over 30 years. She is a core faculty member of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York and teaches workshops throughout the United States and around the world.

Bobby began practicing yoga in London in the early 1970s, while working as a costume designer and animator. In 1976, Bobby (along with husband Lindsey and sons Miles and Jake) made her first trip to study with B. K. S. Iyengar in Pune, India. She has returned every two years to continue her study. She was given an Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate in 1977.

In the 1980s, Bobby's interest in women's issues was sparked by her studies with Mr. Iyengar's daughter, Geeta Iyengar. While Mr. Iyengar was teaching the main class, the women who were menstruating were sent to the back of the room to work more quietly. Geeta showed these women how. This experience awakened Bobby to the need for a woman's yoga practice. It lead her to focus her work on women's health and to write and illustrate The Woman's Yoga Book.

She is the creator of a short film, entitled "Yantra," based on the movements of B.K.S. Iyengar during his own asana practice. Bobby Clennell lives in New York City.
