Autor Patrick Nichols
en Limba Engleză Paperback – apr 2022
"We shape the future society through the ways in which we educate or fail to educate our youth." - Patrick Nichols

A gritty look into education in the inner city as told through the experiences of a teacher who struggled with trauma, addiction, and PTSD. It peers into the worlds ofteenagers whose lives often have been shattered by addiction and violence. The experiences of both youth and educator ask, "What is the purpose of fourteen years of formalized education that doesn't even prepare a person to earn a livable wage? How might we reimagine this critical component of our society to better serve us all?" Told in a fast paced style, it is raw, introspective, poignant, and occasionally humorous.

Notă biografică

Patrick Nichols was raised in Brooklyn, NY during the 1960's and 70's. From the early 60's to the mid 70's, his neighborhood went from a safe place where children played openly in the streets to a violent, drug and crime infested war zone. During his first semester of college, in an effort to avoid being drawn further in to that street life, he joined the military where he became a police officer. After he was honorably discharged, he finished his education, completing a Masters Degree in English/Secondary Education from City College. He tried his hand at 26 different jobs before he ended up teaching high school to inner city youth for more than a quarter of a century. He now lives upstate New York where he regularly hikes the Catskill mountains.
