Foreword
Creativity has moved up in the world. Where it used to be a nice to have, now it’s a need to have.
Today, educators consider it among the highest form of learning. Psychologists consider it among the highest forms of self-actualization. Business executives consider it among the most critical characteristics of modern leadership. Frankly, creativity is not a luxury. It is a 21st century survival skill. Professional and personal success depend on it.
There has never been a more important time to cultivate creative thinking in our students, our citizens, our employees and ourselves. While creativity sometimes seems magical, in fact, as authors Dorte Nielsen and Sarah Thurber point out, creative thinking has its own distinct patterns, guidelines and mechanics, which when we understand them, can support better thinking, better collaboration and better solutions.
Our fast moving world demands creative responses, and the practical strategies and exercises in this book promote exactly that: creativity on demand. Why wait for the muse? Learn to take responsibility for your own creativity. Nielsen and Thurber offer proven practices that help you to do just that. Commit to these methods and you will be able to produce breakthrough ideas whenever and wherever you wish.
I’m delighted to see this book reach readers everywhere.
