Anonim a dat nota:
I really wanted to love this book... but I just couldn't. "The adult version of Harry Potter" - this statement is wrong on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin. When I started the book I expected exactly that, a darker version of Harry Potter. But halfway through the book they were already done with school and doing... nothing? Actually, they were doing something: complaining about how shitty life is. Yeah, we know, which is exactly why we want to read books about magical worlds and great adventures, not about whining teenagers who do nothing and just sit around waiting for something to happen, which is also what I've been doing for more than half of the book. The main character is completely useless, the story would've been the same without him in it. And that goes for other characters as well, except for one or two moments in the book when they had to do something to keep the story going. One of the reasons why I'm giving it 3 stars is that I really liked Alice and she was the only one who seemed to actually enjoy magic; I wish the other characters were more like her. The other reason is that finally, by the end of the book, there was a sort of magical adventure. "Sort of" because most of the characters didn't do much but follow instructions and run away when things got scary and dangerous. We also didn't see much magic going on, so I'm not sure about the "magical" part either.
