Youngsters raised during the Depression eagerly bonded together as young men to compete in high school under the innovative direction of a World War II Navy veteran. The 1948-49 Coldwater High School basketball team won 20 games on their way to the State Finals. Despite several fine efforts over the past sixty-five years to equal the '49 team, only that unconventional team has ever reached the "treasure at the end of the rainbow."
