Aceste recomandări vin de la Jeffrey A. Kottler şi Jon Carlson, autorii cărții “The Mummy at the Dining Room Table: Eminent Therapists Reveal Their Most Unusual Cases and What They Teach Us about Human Behavior”, renumiţi pentru experienţa în domeniul psihoterapiei.

“Our collection of stories come from thirty of the most prominent and well-regarded therapists. They live in different parts of the world. They are trained in different disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, counseling, family therapy, and social work. In this book, you will have the opportunity to hear the greatest living theorists and practitioners talk about their strangest cases. In each story, you will not only gain an intimate look at how individualshave chosen to adapt in unique ways to adversity in their lives but also get an inside peek at how some of the greatest minds of our generation sor out the complexities of the situation in such a way as to cure their clients’ presenting problems. As never before, you will learn about how therapists work with their most challenging clients, and you will gain a deeper understanding of human suffering.”

I took a deep breath and prepared to hear the story of my very first patient. This was the beginning of my new carrer, and I was determined to do the best job I could. I just hoped that he presented the sort of problem that I could address. Little did I imagine how poorly his expectations would match my capabilities.

“So”, I began in my most welcoming voice. “How can I help you?”

“Well, Doc, I was hopin’ you could take care of the smell.”

“The smell?” I asked the very anxious man, not sure what he was talking about.

“Yeah. Cain’t you get the scent? It’s turbul.”

“Turbul?” I pronounced the word carefully, exactly as he had.

“Turbul. Just turbul.”

“Oh, terrible. You mean terrible?”

[…….]

“Well Doc, I want you to cut off my nose.”

The Man Who Wanted His Nose Cut Off

The Woman Who Should Have Been Depressed

The Urge to Eat from Garbage Cans

An Oedipal Dilemma

Visez cu ochii deschişi. Citesc. Scriu.
