A “WHoW” Approach.
This text uses a “WHoW” approach to teaching software. Explaining Why a task is performed, illustrating How to perform the task, and then explaining What the task affected.

“MAPS” Topics.
Chapters begin with an introduction on Manual Accounting Procedures (“MAPS”) before illustrating transaction posting in the software. MAPS topics expose students to the subsidiary journals, accounting ledgers, and audit trail concepts necessary to understanding why and how transaction posting impacts data.

Going “Behind the Keys.”
MAPS topics also provide insight for illustrations in Behind the Keys topics where students trace the audit trail for posted transactions. With MAPS and Behind the Keys, students learn to conceptualize accounting transactions and to correct posting errors.

Now “You Try.”
On occasion, students will be asked to complete a You Try exercise following a guided illustration to reinforce skills previously covered. Solutions for these exercises can be found later on in the text to check for understanding.

Detailed Appendixes.
Appendixes A-E contain crucial information that applies to the text and its software:
•    A includes detailed instructions for installing QuickBooks Pro 2009.
•    B includes instructions for correcting posting errors.
•    C provides data file backup and restore procedures to make data portable between school and home.
